Lilongwe, Malawi .- Madonna visited Malawi on Sunday, a poor village in Malawi, and discussed plans with the authorities to build a new school in the African country where, according to the singer intends to adopt a child.

Madonna toured the village Chinkhota taking by the hand Lourdes, her 12 year old daughter. Dozens of reporters followed.

The singer of 50 years refused to answer journalists’ questions about rumors that he had traveled to Malawi to adopt a child of four years. She merely commented that it was “astonishing” return to a country runs a charitable organization and adopted last year where his son David, three years old.

Then left the village in a caravan of at least three pickup trucks, while crowds of children screamed and waved their hands running behind.

A security guard who was in the caravan said Madonna spoke to the residents and expressed his desire to build a school in the place.

Madonna is expected to be present in court on Monday to sign adoption papers.

An official from Malawi and welfare of a person involved in adoption procedures have said that the girl, Madonna hopes to adopt is an orphan, after his single mother died shortly after birth. The sources also spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is regarded as delicate.

Madonna adopted last year to a child born in Malawi, David Banda.

On Saturday, a British children’s charity called for Madonna to re-think its plans to add another African child to her family. The group Save the Children UK (Save the Children, United Kingdom) said that the star recently divorced and risk sending the wrong message by adopting a second child from the impoverished southern African nation of Malawi.

“Please, think twice,” said a spokesman for Save the Children, Dominic Nutt, explaining that many of the adoptions that occur throughout the world are unnecessary.

Nutt said he was not implying that Madonna is doing something wrong, but added that the whole process of international adoption is often imperfect.

“I do not like, even for a second to suggest that Madonna has violated the rules,” said Nutt. “But sometimes the rules can fail,” he added.
