Madonna opens girls school in Malawi
Pop diva Madonna was in Malawi today to inaugurate the school for girls Rasing Malawi Academy for Girls, built with assistance in the country who has adopted two children.
Madonna promotes Raising Malawi foundation, which supports orphans and vulnerable children in the African country. The new school is in the capital, Lilongwe.
On the website of the foundation, the singer of 51 years says that the goal of the center is “to encourage girls to become future leaders of Malawi,” the news agency DPA.
Madonna, who traveled to the southeast African country with her family earlier this year adopted the little Mercy James, three years after obtaining custody of her first Malawian son David Banda. Both have four years.
In addition, the artist has two other biological children, Lourdes, 13, and Rocco, nine.
According to Madonna, Raising Malawi is working with the local Ministry of Education and experts from around the world in a program to teach girls Malawians to “consider challenges, serve their local communities to develop their country.”
